Giving Thanks for the Freedom to Trade

by Tim Bohen
Freedom to Trade

What does Memorial Day have to do with trading? As it turns out, plenty.

… Do you love trading?

… Do you appreciate the freedom to trade and flexibility that you have as a trader?

… Do you realize how fortunate you are to even have access to stock exchanges?

If you answered yes to any of the above, thank the military. It’s because of them that you have the ability to trade freely in the markets at all.

Freedom to Trade

Without the greatest military in the world, our country might not have the security we have. When you leave your house, the idea of being bombed or harmed isn’t typically going to be a direct threat.

In general, as American citizens, we have the ability to move freely through the day and our lives. While we can take this for granted, it’s important to remember that this is not the case in many other countries.

I believe that this security is one of the biggest reasons why we are able to have some of the greatest stock exchanges in the world.

When you think about it, it’s really incredible that there’s a stock market at all, and that you have the freedom to freely trade stocks. As a trader, you have the ability to invest with little more than a laptop and a brokerage account. Not everyone in the world has this type of freedom.

While I didn’t serve in the military, I’m in awe of the brave individuals who have. Some of my biggest heroes like David Goggins, Jocko Willink, and Tim Kennedy were in the military, and I believe that the time they served our country helped shape them into the inspiring individuals they are today.

If you aren’t familiar with any of the names I just mentioned, make it a point to Google them or look them up on YouTube — I think you’ll be inspired by their stories and what they have to share.

Giving Thanks

As a trader, rather than looking at Memorial Day as another day that the market is annoyingly closed, take the time to appreciate those individuals who have made trading possible for you at all.

If you have served, I thank you for your service to our country. If you served and are also a trader, I doubly salute you! Thank you for giving us traders the freedom to pursue our passion.

What does Memorial Day mean to you, as a human and/or as a trader? I love to hear your thoughts … leave a comment if you have something to say!
