Tech giant Apple Inc. (AAPL) is gearing up to release three new iPhones, including two “Pros,” next month, according to a detailed Bloomberg report citing unnamed sources.

The news comes as Apple stock remains up near 35% in 2019 after plunging to its lowest price in a year in a half in January after slashing revenue guidance. Now, the iPhone maker is betting on a mix of new hardware, software and its burgeoning services arm to revamp its growth.

Besides the new handsets, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company is reportedly planning to announce its largest laptop in years and upgraded iPads in the coming weeks and months.

Pro iPhones Get an Extra Lens

Apart from adding new features, Apple is adding its “Pro” branding to its iPhones for the first time. The iPhone XS and XS Max will be succeeded by iPhone 11 Pros and the XR will also receive an upgrade.

Apple’s new handsets are expected to go on sale next month, impacting fiscal fourth quarter sales numbers. The main feature of the new Pro phones is a new camera system with the ability to capture ultra-wide-angle photos and videos, per Bloomberg. An extra camera on the back of the phone “will let users zoom out and capture a larger field of view” and the sensors will take three images at the same time, using artificial intelligence to automatically correct the combined photo. The Pro camera and video will reportedly rival some traditional cameras and professional video cameras, and take higher resolution pictures. LG has reportedly ramped up production of the cameras.

Other key new features include a reverse wireless charging system for AirPods, a multi-angle Face ID sensor, enhanced water resistance, updated OLED screens, and faster A13 processors. None of this year’s models will include 5G, although next years are expected to, per Bloomberg.

The new “Pro” phones are expected to look similar to the existing line-up, with most of the changes in the internal system.

Other hardware expected to launch alongside the iPhone or shortly after include a new entry-level iPad and upgraded iPad Pro with better cameras and faster chips, updates to the Apple Watch and a fully remodeled, larger MacBook. According to Bloomberg, other hardware including popular audio accessories such as HomePods and Airpods will also get updates.

What’s Next?

According to various previous leaks, Apple’s launch event is likely to take place on September 10. While fiscal Q4 results should offer some insight into demand for Apple’s new handsets, investors will be highly holding out for results from the key holiday season.
