The Japanese entertainment and video games giant Square Enix joined Oasys Gaming Blockchain to “explore the development of new blockchain games”; per the official announcement, the entertainment conglomerate will be the final of 21 node validators on the blockchain platform for the current project.

The initial validators list of Oasys includes other video game entities like Bandai Namco, Netmarble, Mythical, Sega, WeMade and Ubisoft. According to the official press release, the two companies will partner up with the goal of “exploring the feasibility of harnessing user contributions in the development of new games on the Oasys blockchain”. The eco-friendly blockchain platform aims to create a Web3-based ecosystem for gamers and developers.

Square Enix has been vocal about exploring new and interesting ways to make gamers engaged with its games and other projects and decentralized games were core in this exploration period. The Japanese company even sold three of its studios to Embracer Group after launching its blockchain division.

Yosuke Saito, Director, Square Enix Blockchain Entertainment Division said the following about SE joining Oasys:

“We are excited to join the Oasys team and others in the gaming community on this project. Our shared enthusiasm for Web3 gaming makes this an exciting partnership for us and we look forward to gaining insights that can advance the creation of all-new gameplay experiences for gamers across the globe.”

Daiki Moriyama, Director of Oasys also commented and shared this message:

“To partner with a respected and ambitious gaming company such as Square Enix, helps us to accelerate our collective mission to bring blockchain gaming to the masses. With our partnership, we will be able to truly bring new experiences and empower gaming fans from all backgrounds while helping to establish the next stage of growth for blockchain entertainment.”

Square Enix has been quite active lately; the Japanese entertainment giant applied for a trademark to launch a new studio in the west dubbed Studio Onama, and they’re also partnered with Nickelodeon to make a free-to-play Avatar The Last Airbender mobile game.

The company also joined forces with Enjin to launch Final Fantasy NFTs and invested in Blacknut, an independent cloud gaming company.
